Our History

A vision for the need of a southern Baptist Mission in Eastland, Texas formally became a reality on February 10, 1954, when the First Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Rev. C. Melvin Ratheal instructed its Mission Committee, chaired by A. J. Blevins, Jr. to investigate all possibilities of a mission location and building.

On May 5, 1954, the First Baptist Church voted to borrow $3,500.00 in order to purchase the house and lot which presently is utilized as our Fellowship Hall. On May 9, 1956,  during a business meeting, the name of Bethel was unanimously chosen as the name for the new church. There were 40 votes cast..

The First Baptist church approved a recommendation that the the Mission be organized into a Church effective on Sunday, May 20, 1956.

On November 14, 1956, the building committee presented plans for the new church building. Plans included the building as it now exists. The original building and the proposed new building would later be connected with an additional structure which presently houses our pastor's study, nursery, and Sunday school rooms. the church approved these plans by unanimous consent on November 25, 1956.
The construction of the new auditorium was completed and occupied for the first time during worship service Sunday morning, November 17, 1957.

Bethel celebrated it's 50th anniversary in May of 2006. God has blessed Bethel Church the past 50 years and our prayer is that He may continue to use Bethel for His glory.
